last stand Review

This is a must, for all cold chisel fans. The last concert put on by the aussie rockers is tearful goodbye to a nation proud of "their boys" Each song belted out by barnes is moving and powerful and this is was the trademark of all chisel tunes. This concert held in sydney, includes all live recordings, which just adds to the excitemnt of the record. I also purchased the video for vcr use and it too is a great keepsake. All in all, Last Stand will in fact keep you standing on your feet, cheering for the best Oz rock band of all time!!

While there are great differences between miscarriages and elective abortions, the emotional trauma that follows any kind of pregnancy loss is often very similar. How can the church bring hope and healing to individuals who are experiencing such trauma while continuing to affirm the sanctity of every human life? When Mourning Breaks illustrates practical ways to love and support those who are hurting from a pregnancy loss.

Couples and single adults, physicians, chaplains and counselors talk about the impact of miscarriage and elective abortion on emotions, relationships, marriage and faith. By sensitively presenting the stories of grieving women and men, When Mourning Breaks encourages compassion and offers hope. [Original title: Aborted Sun]

This DVD includes an unlimited public exhibition use license for a single location, plus DVD Extras: discussion guide (PDF Format), director's commentary, movie trailer, 2 promo posters (PDF Format). When Mourning Breaks (Public Screening Edition) Review

I have not experienced a miscarriage or an abortion so I really didn't understand what people go thru when they have these experiences. This movie showed me what those experiences are like both for the woman and the man and the depth of the pain that they go thru. It also gave very practical ideas on how to support others who are going thru this; what to do, what not to do. It was so amazingly touching and real and I loved the dramatized portions - really brought the stories to life. I feel this is an extremely important movie to see for all of us, whether we've gone thru these experiences ourselves or not.

White Hell of Pitz Palu [VHS] Review

This late German silent is very much an action and mountain-climbing disaster film, of which genre "The Holy Mountain" is probably the best remembered, and in comparison "The White Hell of Pitz Palu" probably falls short in a few areas. Firstly, there is not much of a story or plot as it revolves around three main characters who have a climbing accident, get stuck and inevitably need to be rescued. Without a doubt the action and disaster scenes (climbing walls of ice, falls and avalanches) are expertly done, and the cinematography is close to breathtaking. In fact, watching many of the scenes - beautiful melting and dripping icicles, moody clouds, glistening walls of ice and simply the rugged snow-capped mountains made me wish it could be in colour in order to be absolutely perfect. From a visual viewpoint, "The White Hell of Pitz Palu" can't be flawed, and I'm sure that anyone interested in mountaineering (or even photography of such mountains) will find this film exciting and interesting. But I'm not a mountain nor snow and ice person, and I usually prefer a good, more complex story and interesting characters, and for such viewers this film might feel rather slow and too much of the same thing. Although the orchestral musical score is new and suited to the scenes, it might not be to everyone's taste and I found it rather heavy at times - but perhaps that was the intention after all, since ominous big mountains do create that kind of mood! Nevertheless, I can see plenty of merit in other aspects of this film such as the impressive visual, photographic qualities (the picture quality is very good, by the way) and also a glimpse into the lives of the characters such as Dr Krafft who lost his wife in an earlier mountain climbing adventure, and who thereafter `haunted' the mountain, roaming around alone - until he meets a young honeymoon couple who change everything for him. The emphasis and focus in this film are not on the story or people, but rather on the physical mountain itself and above all, the forces of nature: wind, ice, storms and mere mortals staying alive in the ruthless elements. For more story and character angles with the same star (Leni Riefenstahl) and also directed by Arnold Franck, "The Holy Mountain" might still be the best of this `mountain film' genre for the general viewer.

GODFATHER Review

For shame Amazon, for putting up something that is not described correctly. This is not a blu-ray steelbook that collectors are looking for. This is called a metal-pak, much like the Target exclusive of Iron Man 2. Just letting people who are looking for steelbooks know this important detail.

Product Description

Did you know that during the period of A.D. 100 and A.D. 400 the Bible had been translated into nearly 500 languages? Did you know that from A.D. 400 to A.D. 500 it had been reduced to just one language? A language only know to the clergy and the educated. As a result of the Bible becoming the "Forbidden Book" the dark ages were marked by superstition and ignorance. Confusion controlled the minds of the masses. However, by God's sovereing hand, He called a few brave men to preserve and restore the Bible to the people. John Wycliffe, the brilliant 14th century Oxford scholar, translated the Bible from Latin into English in order to enlighten the masses oppressed through ignorance. His work was so despised by the established church, that Pope Martin V ordered Wycliffe's bones to be dug up and burned. Martin Luther was one of the few who challenged church authority in the 16th century and lived to tell the tale. In exposing the folly of indulgences (paying money to the church in order to obtain favor with God), he revealed what had always been written in scripture, that justification was through faith. William Tyndale was not spared like his friend Luther. Tyndale spent the last 500 days of his life in a cold castle dungeon. He was then tied to a stake, strangled and burned. His crime?...printing Bibles in the English language! Discover the fascinating story behind the preservation of the Bible. This is a video DVD (not VHS.) One hour in length. "THIS DVD IS INCREDIBLE! I CANNOT RECOMMEND IT ANY HIGHER...." JJCalvin

The Forbidden Book - The History of the English Bible Review

The Forbidden Book is a DVD presentation examining the history of the Word of God in English. It is hosted by Dr. Craig Lampe, a Bible historian and International Director of the World Bible Society. Dr. Lampe owns the Rare Bible Showroom in Arizona and holds a virtual monopoly over rare and antique Bibles. His collection even includes a 1410 Wycliffe Manuscript valued at just under $3 million. It is one of the rarest Bibles in the world. He has a Coverdale Bible, Great Bibles, sells leaves of the Geneva Bible, and, amazingly enough, leaves from the Gutenberg Bible - the first book ever published. If you happen to have one of these complete Bibles sitting in your attic, you should have it insured for about $100 million.

This DVD is an hour-long presentation on the history of the English Bible. The viewer will meet most of the historical figures responsible for bringing us the Bible as we know and love it today: Wycliffe, Hus, Gutenberg, Colet, Erasmus, Tyndale, Luther and so on. He will see some of the locations important to the history of the Bible, such as the Wittenberg door and Martin Luther's study. He will learn about the earliest English translations, in the Old World and in the New.

There are many amazing facts worked into the presentation. Lampe shows a scroll that is 1000 years old, and tells the viewer that it is word-for-word the same as the text of the Dead Sea Scrolls that were written a full millennium before. He describes how the Bible went from being available in 500 languages in 400 AD to being available in only 1 only 100 years later. He talks about a 110 year period in America during which 5000 editions of the Bible were produced.

In short, it is quite an informative and enjoyable video. The production quality is a little bit uneven (the host can be a bit awkward at times (what do you do with your hands when you're on camera?) and there are places where the camera shakes a little bit during panning shots. But on the whole the quality is quite good. It is a bit strange that the only information given about who produced this video are the name of the host and, at the very end, his web site. There are no further credits. I know from the information given on various e-commerce sites that it is produced by New Liberty Videos, a company that does not seem to have an Internet presence.

Being reminded of the blood that was shed to bring the Bible to common folk like myself, makes me consider just how flippantly I treat the Scriptures. Do I really have a sense of how privileged I am to have not just one Bible but an entire stack of them in many outstanding translations? And do I thank God for the faithful men and women who gave their lives that I can have unlimited access to His Word? Do I really understand how unique my situation is? I suspect I do not often enough consider these things.

Before I close, I will warn that the host is quite harsh towards the Roman Catholic Church and their role in the history of the English Bible. And well he should be, as the papacy worked tirelessly to eradicate any person who dared to present the Scriptures to the common man. Of course the fears of the Church were founded, for when Scripture became accessible, the light quickly broke forth and spread throughout the world.

At Greatsite.com the advertisement for this video says, "Hundreds of Church Sunday School classes and Christian home-schoolers use it as part of their curriculum." I would agree that this presentation would be useful for those purposes. It would make a valuable addition to a church, school or even public library. It would also make a great gift. And of course it is also a valuable addition to a person library. I very much enjoyed this video and am sure to watch it again. I recommend it.
