Flic ou voyou / Le guignolo - Belmondo (FRENCH VERSION) [IMPORT] Review

Ce sont deux tres bons films. Je n'ai pas de preferences. C'est d'ailleurs etonnant attendu que lorsqu'ils sont sortis, pour le plaisir qu'en a eu les spectateurs, il etait entendu que c'etait de la grosse machine commerciale qui vieillirait mal. Et puis non... Ca passe encore tres bien. On y croit, on y croit. Les scenarios ne sont pas plausibles, mais ce n'est pas bien grave, le cinema peut aussi choisir le farfelu comme moyen de transport, ce qui placerait "Le guignolo" comme un chef-d'oeuvre du genre, au meme titre que "Le cerveau", "L'aventure c'est l'aventure", etc...

L'aventure policiere de Flic ou voyou, meme si peu credible, est bien mene, l'histoire est bien racontee avec des moments forts qui jalonnent le parcours sans le rendre lourdingue ou ringard.

Et puis, bien sur, il y a Bebel. Un tres bon acteur qui sait comment emmener le spectateur dans la complexite de ses personnage, qui fait toutes les cascades, meme celle ou il est pendu a un helicoptere au-dessus de Venise (au risque d'encourir le sydrome de la main blanche), qui passe du comique au dramatique sans changer de scene, qui emerveille et surprend 25 ou trente ans apres.

Je ne sais pas si c'est du cinema de grand art, et je m'en moque, c'est en tout cas un grand plaisir a visionner.

Stargate SG-1 - Saison 3 - Int� grale Review

The first two seasons of Stargate SG-1 were really the pace-setters for the rest of the series. In the first season we were introduced to the main characters and several ongoing plot threads. In season II we were given the Tok'ra, as well as the beginning of the end for Apophis, plus got a smattering of very good episodes. Now, with season 3, everything in Stargate is in full-swing! With old enemies revisited, two primary plots resolved, and a plethora of new ones introduced, Season 3 really has it all. The relationship between Jack and Thor starts to develop, Daniel learns to move on with his life, Carter learns more about Jolinar and becomes closer with her father, and Teal'c, well, Teal'c ROCKS! I cannot say enough about episodes like "Forever In A Day," "Legacy," "Point of View," "Jolinar's Memories," "The Devil You Know," "Pretense," "NEMESIS" and others! The writers became more seasoned with story plots and the actors dove into their roles head-first, not afraid to give us some of the best science fiction material I've ever seen! I 100% reccommend this DVD boxed set. It is worth every dollar!

Night of the Living Dead (Silver Screen Collector's Edition) Review

The five star rating I gave Night of the Living Dead is, of course, for the original, uncut, unadulterated edition. The original is, quite simply, the most terrifying movie I've ever seen, even when compared to horror classics like Diabolique (the original French version), Psycho, Rosemary's Baby, Halloween and The Shining. I saw NOTLD when I was 9 years old on Creature Features at midnight after a funeral. I had nightmares for the next two nights. The film still gives me the chills whenever I see it (usually at Halloween).

When the 30th Anniversary Edition came out, I bought it on VHS as I was curious to see what they termed as "new footage." What I got was a horrible mess that butchered the original film, removed the original music for a terrible synthesizer score and added pointless footage that makes the viewer want to grind his teeth down to the gums. One of the additions is a new character: a fire and brimstone preacher. While the acting in the original is amateurish, at best, the "actor" who plays the preacher makes the original cast look like Oscar winners by comparison. He snarls, and howls and gnashes his teeth like he has rabies. Even more ridiculous is the extra footage of Bill Hinzman -- the "cemetary zombie" in the original. The extra footage shows Hinzman's character emerging from the grave, then cuts to the original 1968 opening footage with Judith O'Dea and Russell Streiner. It's absolutely ridiculous as Hinzman looks 30 years older in the new footage. In addition, there are more zombies and a new ending to the film that makes no sense whatsoever. This "new" version is a piece of trash that desecrates the most frightening film of all time. Avoid it like the plague!

Trigun - Badlands Rumble Blu-ray Edition Collector Review

I was fortunate to see a screening of this movie at Mechacon 2011 in New Orleans, and it was a real treat. I wasn't sure what to expect, considering I have a good view on what the series was and was supposed to be, and how many ways there were to mess something up. But everything is pretty much perfect! It plays out like a longer episode of the series with higher production values. The new characters are nice additions, and here are several shoutouts to the old series (hard to believe it's thirteen years old now). The comedy is the standard and always enjoyable Vash the Stampede's zany actions, including over-the-top infatuation with the new character Amelia. The action scenes and gunplay have been polished and refined, with things like characters actually reloading, etc. I really can't think of a single thing to say negatively about it. You could make the argument that I'm biased, and that's fair, considering I've been a fan for several years and viewed the movie within a room filled with nothing but other fans, with every gag onscreen bringing up a completely warranted roar of laughter. There should be more reviews soon that will give a more fair view of the technical quality. But if you want a fan's opinion: it is exciting and hilarious.

A Bit of Scarlet (Institutional Use) Review

Andrea Weiss has produced an extremely entertaining and empowering documentary of the queer side of British film history which compliments The Celluloid Closet beautifully (they were both works in progress at the same time).

I recently remastered the recording of my half hour interview with Andrea from 1st August 1997, for Queer Radio on 4ZZZfm, when she was invited by the Brisbane International Film Festival to present "A Bit Of Scarlet". Andrea was enthusiastic and deservedly proud of this feature. However she was shocked when the projectionist showed the last few reels out of order. I'm over the moon that A Bit Of Scarlet is now available on DVD - I want to see A Bit Of Scarlet in its entirety exactly as Andrea intended.

Wonderful, stylish, inventive, historically unique and truly vital documentary film-making. Highly recommended.

Premiers Desirs (Frn) Review

I am a David Hamilton fan, and he does not ONLY do young people. As a former pro photog myself, he has a photographic skill I find marvelous, and it was very popular back in the '80s and '90s, and continues today. The graininess is somewhat pass� because of today's double-digit electronic capabilities, which I also like in their milieu. Hamilton is closer to painters, where too much detail can be negative. Nevertheless, he is a master photographer. Pemiers Desirs is not Academy Award, rather it is a photographer showing his video side during a time when much video was barely quality, and lacked technological sophistication. The plots are simple, the video grainy (like most of his photos), so, like paintings, his work is not for everyone. But he captures an air of innocence well, and despite the dirty-minded few, I find his work to be appreciative, not leering. So if you aren't comfortable with some of his work, the youthful nudes for example, then avoid it. It's still so much better and more moral than skin mags, and a LOT more beautiful. For those who appreciate beauty regardless.....
