Product Description

(1935, Reliable) Tom Tyler, Lillian Gilmore, Slim Whitaker, William Gould, Earl Dwire. Transferred from yet another stunning 16mm print. Tom seeks revenge for his dad's slaying by bandits who are tied to a corrupt local politician, who in turn heads a gang of rustlers. Things get sticky when Tom falls for the bad guy's daughter. Tom's second film for Reliable is a pretty good outing. Mucho action and hard riding.

Unconquered Bandit Review

SINISTER CINEMA is an Oregon-based DVD-R mfr. that specializes in obscure 'B' unit movies. Sinister's dubs are from unrestored 16 and 35mm film stock, thus quality varies with condition of their antique celluloid. None are pristine, yet none are so degraded as to be unviewable. Some Sinister transfers are in fact quite decent.

As a 'B' unit westerner, Tom Tyler (born Vincent Markowski) was one of the Three Mesquiteers. He appeared in the John Ford classics STAGECOACH (1939) and SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON(1949), and had uncredited cameos in DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK (1939), GONE WITH THE WIND (1939), THE GRAPES OF WRATH and BUCK PRIVATES (1941). Tyler headlined comic book cliffhanger serials THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN MARVEL (1941) and THE PHANTOM (1943). His career was cut short by rheumatoid arthritis. Forced to live with a sister in his hometown of Detroit, Tyler died at age 50 on 5/1/54.

SYNOPSIS for UNCONQUERED BANDIT--
When homesteaders discover gold on their properties, the politically-connected and powerful Frank Cleyburn (Gould) tries to force them to leave. Cleyburn, who also fences stolen herds, has his gang of rustlers start a fight in which the father (Elliott) of Tom Morgan (Tyler) is killed. The grieving yet vengeful son obtains permission from a local outlaw named 'Night Hawk' (Whitaker) to impersonate him. In disguise, Tom becomes a western-style Robin Hood, stealing from wealthy Cleyburn and giving the loot and animals to homesteaders made poor by repeated raids from Cleyburn's gang.

The real Night Hawk is willing to go along with this scheme, as Tom's plan includes convincing Cleyburn's daughter (Gilmore) to marry him (as Night Hawk) but then turning her over to the real bandito, who wlll force the girl to wed then demand Cleyburn's last penny to have their marriage annulled. Everything goes awry however when incognito Tom falls for his intended victim.
