This is a very rare, out of print video. It's a Paul Czinner movie that was shown in movie theaters when it was first released. The performances were filmed live - I think in the 50's. It is absolutely wonderful, and the footage of Fonteyn in the second act of Swan Lake comes closer than anything I have ever seen to the actual impression one got of seeing her dance this live (I saw her live much later than this, with Nureyev, but this is much more representative of her approach to the role than the vhs/dvd of her & Nureyev with the Wiener Staatsopernballett). If you are thinking about buying this be forewarned: a lot of it is very old fashioned (the Swan Lake pas de deux is danced as a pas de deux a trios). That said - it's brilliant and includes Swan Lake act 2 (Fonteyn, Somes & Bryan Ashbridge as Benno, with Antoinette Sibley in the corps!), The Firebird (Fonteyn & Somes) and Ondine (Fonteyn, Somes with Julia Farron as Berta and Alexander Grant as Tirrenio). Fonteyn's shadow dance in Ondine alone is worth the price of this video!
